Sophie Coyle, singer/songwriter to perform at Lucan Festival

Sophie Coyle from Dundalk began writing songs at the age of 12 on a rare ‘two string’ guitar but threw it all away to complete her secondary school studies. All the old 45minute cassette tapes containing her songs have been lost or taped over, such is life.
Sophie’s music could be described as folk-jazz, old-timey feel with quirky lyrics and catchy tunes. Her song `Delirium` has been used for the Credits of `Spiderhole`, a 2010 feature length, Irish made horror film being distributed internationally. She has sung at many well-established Irish venues such as the Spirit Store, the Roisin Dubh, the Cobblestone, the Belltable, and at the Electric Picnic. Sophie recently played support to John Spillane and was also on the line up for this year’s Flat Lakes Festival just gone.

Sophie’s’ influences included Ella Fitzgerald, Hugues Aufrey, Divine Comedy, Madeleine Peyroux, Willie Colon, John Spillane, Joni Mitchell, St. Vincent, Bob Dylan.

The Village stage promises to keep the crowd entertained through the afternoon with the best line up of acts ever seen at one location in Lucan. This is one event you don’t want to miss at its all FREE!

Morgan La Faye confirmed for The Village Stage

Local band Morgan La Faye, have had a good year on the Irish music scene appearing at many festivals up and down the country. We are delighted that they will also perform at The Village Stage on Sunday 25th of September.

Morgan La Faye began with Robbie and Derek meeting up and jamming some songs they both had been working. Later Robbie and Derek were joined by bass player Dar O’Brien who gave they guys that deeper thump they needed. The threesome used Dar’s sufficiently sized shed for a few months before they took the show on the road. A combination of fate and the internet delivered to their door a drummer! – Darren Malone this completed the line-up of Morgan La Faye. They guys have been gigging over the past few years at some of the best music venues around the city such as Whelans, The Village, Crawdaddy, and The Mezz.

Earlier this month the guys went into the studio to record their very first single which will released late summer. No strangers to Lucan Festival they also performed at last year’s festival. We look forward to having them back!

Here is one of our favourites ‘The Grass is Greener’

Adela and the Meanits to perform at The Village Stage

Having played solo for a number of years under her own name, Adela Meally was nominated as Best Female at the Balcony TV Awards 07 and was hyped as the “new queen of the local indie scene” by Hot Pres

Adela, played support to John Spillane, Eleanor McEvoy, Liam O Maoinlai, Don Mescall, Gavin Glass, Juliet Turner, Damien Dempsey, Mick Flannery & Arthur Ebeling and also made a video ‘Party for Three’ with the New York Film University. The song has been described as “Sesame Street on craic” and as having “hit written all over it” according to John Creedon of RTE Radio 1.

Comprised of a group of four professional musicians, Adela and the Meanits began as a project in 2009 when they made their debut in the Body and Soul Arena at world famous music and arts festival, Electric Picnic.

After a chance encounter on a St Patrick’s Day float in Portlaoise, Adela met drummer Ros O’ Meara. Then a member of several bands, Ros introduced Adela to Barry Hayes who in turn introduced everyone to John Davidson. Like peas in a far out pod…they became Adela and the Meanits. Their music has been likened to Madness, Sultans of Ping and Lily Allen, but comparisons aside, Adela and the Meanits have an infectious, happy buzz in their sound. Their live shows are a quirky mix of trashcan jazz-meets-pop-meets-folk.

All four musicians (Adela Meally, John Davidson, Ros O’ Meara, Barry Hayes).  are multi-instrumentalists and incorporate vocals, double bass, piano, ukulele, melodica, drums/percussion, nylon string guitar and violin with effects pedals into each live performance. They are now set to release their debut album just in time for this year’s summer festivals. The upcoming studio album has a definite left of centre pop sound.

We are delighted that Adela and the Meanits will perform at The Village Stage Sunday September 25th.
