The Gandhis back in Lucan on the Village Stage, September 25th
Lucan Festival are delighted that The Gandhis have confirmed to play The Village Stage on Sunday September 25th. The Gandhis are a Dublin based four-piece, in which writing and singing duties are shared between all four members. They have a unique style and panache in creating a simple yet immediately infectious melody – something that you can sing along to as if you’ve known it all your life. Throw in a neat brass section; some wonderfully arranged harmonies, and a collection of delightfully sunny guitar riffs. The four band members are: Niall Cullen – Bass and Vocal, Conor Deasy – Lead Guitar and Vocal, Aidan McKelvey – Guitar and Vocal, Bazz O’Reilly – Drums and Vocal.
In 2008 they were signed to Dublin label 1969 records, and their debut album ‘You Are My Friend’ was released in October ’09 with a sell-out launch night in Whelans. The band have made national appearances on the likes of RTE’s “Saturday Night With Miriam” and “The Cafe”, Having developed a strong reputation for their energetic live shows, some press comments attributed to The Gandhis include:
“A sweet delight….some of the catchiest pop tunes you’re likely to hear all year” Evening Herald,
“a great night out is always guaranteed at their gigs” News Of The World..
In the recent past they played three support slots with Declan O’Rourke at Dolan’s Warehouse in Limerick, The Róisín Dubh in Galway and The Killarney INEC, Saturday. Gandhis. The guys should have a new single out in early October watch out for that.

Local Stars Shine at the Stars of Lucan
Local Stars were certainly shining on Saturday night at the Church of Ireland Parish Centre for the Lucan Festival’s Stars of Lucan Talent Extravaganza. The crowd was wowed with spectacular local dance and music performances, as well as a touch of comedy courtesy of Grandma Frochlin.
There really was something for everything as part of the jam-packed programme. The night was kicked off by Westside Stage School performing a variety of popular routines from Hairspray, Chicago and their Swagga Crew. The first acoustic performer of the evening, Willie Clynes, treated the crowd to a number of favourites including “Wicked Games” followed by special guest from Connemara, Grandma Frochlin who told of tales of the West and her life there. Lorcan James, an emerging local artist, led into the interval by performing some of his own songs that ended to rapturous applause from the crowd.
Dancity Ireland started the second half of the evening with a performance of “We are sailing” followed by newly formed group Heart Strings (Fiona Dalton, Milla Clynes) singing some old and new favourites including “More than Words” and really got the crowd going with “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree”. Lee – Byrne Dance Academy then thrilled those in attendance with their Irish Dancing routines which culminated in a rousing performance of Riverdance. Dancity Ireland finished the night off in style with their “Rock it out” routine including performers of all ages rocking their hearts out.
We are delighted with The Stars Lucan event we had top class acts performing all from the Lucan area, as good as you will see anywhere in the country. We realise it will take time and commitment to develop the interest, such an event deserves. I would like to thank all those who took part on the night, Helen Ryan and the Church of Ireland for the use if the venue, photographer Rachel Fox, and to all our committee and volunteers who put in many hours to make this event a success.

Lucan Bridge gets esential repairs
It’s great to see that essential repairs have finally begun on Lucan Bridge, in recent years some of the capping had come loose and some had disappeared while much of the stone work needed re pointing and the balustrades required repainting. Going to look as good as new for the summer!
Lucan Bridge with a span of 33 metres (110 feet) is the largest single span masonry arch bridge in Ireland. Coursed squared limestone walls, abutments, and segmental arch, quite amazing when you stand beneath it. The cast-iron balustrades was done by the Royal Phoenix ironworks of Parkgate Street, Dublin - completed with a stone coping.
The bridge was designed and built by British architect George Knowles and assisted’ by James Savage in 1814. The bridge replaced an earlier one which was swept away by floods in 1786 part of the footing of the old bridge can still be seen by the weir on the village side of the river.
